About US

Mission:

Veterans of Westchester is a 501(c)3 charity established locally to aid those men and women of the armed services who have so valiantly fought for our freedom during all of our nation's conflicts, and provided us protection at times of peace. Our goal is to raise community awareness and involvement on behalf of the veterans by soliciting clothing donations throughout the county of Westchester.

VofW will obtain clothing donations through three primary channels:

1. Home Pick-Ups. Schedule a home pick-up today! We also accept calls 7 days a week to 914-637-8387(VETS)
2. Bin Sponsorship. Sponsor a bin today!
3. School/Organization Fundraisers. Contact us to schedule a fundraiser!

In return for the charitable donations, the donor may obtain tax relief. Please refer to form 8283 on the IRS website. We suggest that you consult a tax professional regarding the tax deduction. Our EIN is 45-5507162.

Save the Environment:

The local donations will have an always-needed environmental impact on the Westchester communities. By providing their unused clothing, shoes, toys and small household items, donators will be participating in a worldwide recycling effort. All donated items will not only raise much need funds to assist veterans but will also be re-used, helping to minimize waste and reduce energy usage.

Allocation of Funds:

All proceeds will be used to assist local veterans, decided upon by the Veterans Advisory Board of Westchester. The advisory board will allocate the funds received from the program in the best interests of all veterans and veteran groups in Westchester County.

The Veterans Advisory Board is an advisory board to County Executive Robert P. Astorino and discusses items pertinent to serving the veterans of Westchester County. It is comprised of a representative from each of the veterans' organizations in the county: e.g. VFW, American Legion, Korean War Veterans, DAV, Vietnam Veterans of America, Combat Infantrymen, Military Order of the Purple Heart, AMVETS and the Yonkers and Mount Vernon agencies. The board focuses on various issues confronting veterans and also networks to provide fundraising assistance to veterans through various programs. These programs include:

  • The clothing store at Montrose VA
  • The Food Pantry at Franklin Delano Roosevelt Campus of the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System (Montrose), Castle Point VA Medical Center and the James J. Peters VA Medical Center at Kingsbridge
  • The Recreational Office at Montrose for PTSD and Treatment of Veterans
  • The New York State Nursing Home at Montrose
  • The ECAD Canine Service and Therapy Training Program at Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry
  • Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 49 Kitchen Kits, Homeless Veterans Program

Additional contributions will be made based upon a decision of the Veterans Advisory Board to:
